Finding The Right Storage Unit For Your Needs

Blog

If you need to store some items but don't have room, a self-storage facility or mini-storage rental can be an excellent option. The storage space allows you to put things in a safe space that lets you retrieve them as needed and keeps them protected while you are not using them.

Selecting Storage Units

When considering a mini storage unit, you need to determine how much space you need for the things you want to put in it. There are many different unit sizes to choose from, but it is essential to rent one large enough to have the space necessary to hold everything and keep things organized.

A sloppy storage space that is overfull makes it challenging to find things with you need them. There is also a higher potential for damage to items inside the unit when you try to pack too much in before closing the door. The cost for the storage unit may be part of the consideration when searching for mini storage that fits your needs, but you must get a space with enough room for your belongings and room to add more if necessary.

Accessing Your Unit

When you decide on unit size, look for a mini storage facility that offers access when you need it. Some storage facilities allow access at any time with gated access that requires you to enter a code to get through the gate. Most of these storage facilities also offer units with drive access so you can park in front of your storage unit and load or unload items easily.

If you need climate control in the mini storage facility, there are some options available. These units are often inside a building, and you will have to move items to the storage space with a cart or dolly. However, if you are storing items affected by temperature or humidity changes, climate-controlled storage bays can be beneficial and add a layer of protection for the items in storage.

Facility Security

Storage facilities often have security systems and cameras to record and monitor activity on the property when there is no one there. Finding a mini storage facility with the security necessary to protect your items is often not difficult, but some facilities have an attendant on duty all the time and offer extra protection.

Do some research when looking for a mini storage rental, and don't be afraid to ask about the security coverage the facility offers for your storage unit and items inside. If the only security option is a set of cameras on the buildings that record activity, you may want to look at facilities with real-time monitoring before committing to a mini-storage rental.
