3 Tips To Help You Keep Your Storage Unit Clean And Easily Accessible

Blog

Self-storage units provide an excellent opportunity to keep all of the extra items that you don't use on a frequent basis without your home or garage becoming overrun with clutter. However, if you are not careful, you could quickly find yourself struggling to locate the items you need inside your storage unit. That is why it is so important for you to take steps to ensure your storage unit remains clean and that your items are easy to access. The three tips discussed in this article can prove helpful in allowing you to accomplish these goals.

Tip #1: Leave Clear Paths For You To Walk Through The Unit

While it is understandable that you will want to use as much of your available storage space as possible, you will also want to ensure that you have left clear paths to walk from the front to the back of the unit. This is very important because in the absence of walking paths you will be forced to remove all the items that are located in the front of your self-storage unit in order to access even a single item that was packed into the back of the unit.

Tip #2: Store Like Items With Each Other Whenever Possible

Keeping similar items close to each other in your storage unit can make accessing all of the items you need much easier. This is especially true when dealing with seasonal items that are likely to all be used at the same time. For instance, if you choose to store holiday decorations in your storage unit, you are not going to want just a single box of this decor when the holiday season comes around. Keeping like items together will help you to avoid making a mess when searching through your entire unit to find what you need.

Tip #3: Use Large, Colored Labels Rather Than Writing On Boxes

It can be difficult to spot the writing on the side of a box inside your self-storage unit. As a result, you may find yourself sorting through dozens of boxes just to find the one or two boxes that you are actually looking for. Using large, colored labels to help identify the contents of each box can make it much easier to find what you are looking for. This is because these labels are much easier to see even after your storage unit is full. Just be sure to keep a record of what color label you used for each category of items in case your memory fails you when it is time to go in search of an item you haven't used in an extended period of time.
